Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS) is an international Non-Profit organization with social and environmental projects in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. It was founded in 2012 to address global food distribution issues and had since also dedicated its resources to tackle food security and food waste issues.
SOS aims ‘to create a world with food equity, where good quality surplus food becomes accessible for underprivileged population and charitable organizations.’
To achieve its goal, SOS utilizes logistic solutions to collect surplus from food-related businesses and distribute to communities in need such as orphanages, refugees, and low-income communities.

During my travels, I saw shameful amounts of food wasted, especially at hotel buffets, events, happy hours, etc. In my naivety I expected all that surplus food to be put to some good use, but gradually I learned from staff how commercial establishments are challenged allowing such food to go to the people in need or let employees take it home. Seeing all that food wasted made our next mission clear: Rescue food in third-world countries where cost and infrastructure allow it. - Bo H. Holmgreen (Founder & CEO SOS)
The numbers are clear. Globally we produce enough food annually for 10 billion people, there is only over 8 billion on the planet yet over 1 billon are suffering from malnutrition and or starvation. It's a food distribution problem!
Here in Bali Indonesia, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of surplus food being produced from our partners in the tourism and hospitality industries. Yet, at the same time more and more people across the island were losing access to life's basic necessity of nutrition. SOS did not wait for the surplus to return, we launched new programs and managed to grow our operations in 2020 to feed over 3,500,000 meals to the needy communities of Bali and over 25 million meals globally by the end of 2022!
